Finally an internet connection!
The power went off on Wednesday and knocked out the internet service. It is now Friday morning and we are in Krabi, packing for our trip to the Island of Koh Jum (sometimes called Koh Pu?). Wednesday morning we woke up and were taken by 4 X 4 into the jungle where we met up with our new friends for the rest of the monring. Feu was a 2000 pound elephant that was going to take us for our tour through the tropical rain forest. As we pulled in, his sister was getting a bath in the river. The rain held off until we were into the jungle and it come down in buckets for about five minutes and then stopped for the rest of the day. Mommy fed the elephants some bananas as a reward for carrying us through the jungle. Daddy had a chance to ride the elephant native style (on the neck behind the ears). The ears were a little slimy with sweat and daddy almost fell off into the river. After our trip we went back and we used a bamboo pole to play "piniata" for fresh fruit from a nearby tree. On our way to our bungalow we were greeted by a couple of monkeys. We packed up and headed for the lake - a manmade lake by a dam - absolutely huge... We picked up our interpreter on the way and got on a long boat. We traveled for about 45 minutes by long boat through a bunch of limestone islands (it was like that one James Bond movie) to our floating room for the evening. Dinner was a traditional Thai meal. After dinner it was late and we went for a "moonlight safari" to look for wildlife. In the light of the full moon we saw some hornbills and saw some monkeys swinging from tree to tree. Upon arrival back at the raft, we entered our bungalow for the night. Mommy jumped and grabbed my arm and said "snake". I looked at our open window and saw a small tail leaving thinking it must just be a lizard. I went outside to see that the tail belonged to a six foot long green snake wrapped around the pole holding the window open. I went back in to find our camera and the snake headed down the pole towards my pillow on the bed. Our boat driver was very excited to see our anxiety but helped us shoo the snake. Needless to say, the windows and doors were secure for the night. We woke to rain but it ended and we did not get any more for the rest of the day. In the morning we went "monkey hunting" again, then lunch and pack for our trip to Krabi. On the way back to the dock at the dam, we went for a jungle trek. It was very slippery. Leeches were often a warning to us so we lathered on the bug lotion and carefully trekked through the jungle seeing more monkeys and another creature that we could not figure out the name of. At the end of the trail, we boarded a bamboo raft and floated down the river to some amazing caves. With a battery pack and a fluorescent light we enter some enourmous caves of limestone (we were guaranteed no snakes in here). After our return through the jungle, we hopped into our guide's truck and we headed for Krabi. We got an amazing hotel room. 4th Floor facing the river. The tide is out so the boats are grounded but Mommy could easily throw a rock into the river from our balcony. We are not sure of the connectivity on the island but will see what we can do.
